Our first Blog!

Realizing that we needed another way to connect to the world, we decided to create our own blog. Besides, what better a project to work on here at The River’s Edge in Bozeman while it is -18F outside this morning. A couple of things that we are very excited about here at the shop are a newly designed fly tying area, the new Simms Vibram Streamtread soled boots, and our upcoming fishing trip to Pesca Maya down in Ascension Bay, Mexico.

After many months of wondering what, if anything, to do with regards to our fly tying area, we decided to redesign it and add some much needed attention to what we carry. We now have probably the most over-engineered, but coolest fly tying area in Bozeman. If you have not been in lately to take a look, please stop by at least just to see it. Our goal was to make our fly tying area the most well organized in town and while we are still working on it, I think we are making strides. We’ll hopefully have it finished up by the first of the year, but for now, it is all up there and ready to be looked at. If you stop by, please let us know if you don’t find what you are looking for as we are looking for new material ideas. Also, we should have our fly tying classes up and running after the first of the year.

Probably the most exciting news this week has been the arrival of the new Simms Streamtread soled boots. With the goal of going “Felt-Free” in order to help our rivers and streams, Simms teamed up with the Vibram company to develop their very own high tech rubber sole for wading boots. The initial comments on the boots were very sceptical as we all know what the Aquastealth soled boots are like, especially when used here in Montana. Well, to quite the sceptics, I can tell you first hand that I think they are the greatest things since sliced bread. I used a pair this fall on the slick bowling ball rocks of the Yellowstone River and while I am not sure I can tell you that they are “better” than felt on the slick rocks, they are every bit as good. In addition, when approaching the water on the slick grass or mud, these boots excelled because they have “traction!” Our shop employees and guide staff used them as well and all agree. If you have not had a chance to see them, stop by and have a look or visit our web site at theriversedge.com and have a look. I think you’ll be impressed.

Last but not least, it is a little hard to get in some great Montana trout fishing here in Bozeman when it is below zero so we have decided to take a trip down to Pesca Maya with the help of our freinds at Yellowdog Fly Fishing Adventures. The staff is coming along with us this time so we will actually be closed from January 5th through the 11th, but I am sure we’ll be back with lots of great picture and stories.
