Chris, Thanks for the praise. The rod that was being used was a Winston BIIx in a 9' 5wt. It is a great dry fly rod and still allows you to make delicate casts with big flies.

What a great show and love the "hopscotch" game. Just curious what Winston BIIX model were you using?

You shy away from actually comparing the StreamTread to a felt sole in the water, but I can appreciate some of the advantages out of the water. Also, the harder rubber should last much longer than the AquaStealth rubber. Although the move to leave felt behind seems to be a noble one for Simms, I'm am pretty skeptical of it being much more than a marketing ploy to sell boots for a higher price. Didymo and other potentially harmful aquatic invasives are a serious issue, but I think sanitation is the key. The boots with StreamTread will still carry the invasive hitch-hikers in the shoelaces and vent fabric. It seems gear sanitation is still not a commonplace routine and I hope folks don't put so much faith in StreamTread that they don't sanitize their boots. Hopefully, the switch from felt will bring more attention to the issue and make future gear sanitation easier and quicker for responsible fishermen moving between multiple watersheds.

I am not familiar with the Orvis Daypack so I cannot give you accurate information regarding that pack. Are you looking for a pack that will keep your gear dry also? If that is the case, I would probably also consider the Simms Dry Creek Guide Backpack or Roll-Top Backpack. Those are more designed for keeping gear very dry but still offering easy ways to carry rods, nets, or other gear which many people are looking for on extended trips. They certainly do not have the same bells and whistles that the Simms Headwaters Day Pack offers, but they will keep your gear dry. I do think though that you could, with careful planning, carry the necessary gear you are looking for with the Simms Day Pack and do it comfortably. Hope that helps.
