The
Gallatin River
The
Gallatin River is located just west of Bozeman and is known for it’s
abundance of fish and it’s unbelievable scenery. Starting
about 70 miles south of Bozeman and flowing North following U.S. Highway
191 most of its length, the Gallatin has easy access and is a great choice
for wade fishing all year long.
Current Conditions & Fishing Strategy 02-03-10
Most of the ice jams on the Gallatin finally broke free, freeing up some of the lower sections of the river. These were some impressive jams that reached the width of the river near Big Sky. It raised the level 4-5 feet before it finally broke. Fishing has been good overall, but has been better downstream of the Canyon. Look for the warmer afternoons to get out there and give it a try.
