Abel Super 7/8N Reel - Limited Edition DeYoung Series - Abstract Steelhead

Derek DeYoung, a Montana-based fish and wildlife artist, has created a steelhead abstraction that is available on all Abel Reel models. DeYoung's abstract representation of the anadromous rainbow trout captures the fish's strength and wily character. 

The River's Edge is proud to have one of the DeYoung Series Abstract Steelhead Reels in a Super 7/8N in our shop.  The specially anodized and hand-finished steelhead reels are the fifth DeYoung/Abel creations he has done in the last three years.  The dominant feature is DeYoung's abstraction of a steelhead's large black eye, coupled with red cheeks and the nearly metallic look of the fish's head.  It is reminiscent of a fish straight out of the Pacific Ocean, headed up a coastal stream looking for a mate.

The 30-year old artist graduated with a BFA in Illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He now works almost exclusively in fish and wildlife abstractions from his studio not far from Montana's storied rivers.

Abel Reels are precision machined from cold-finished 6061-T651 aerospace grade aluminum to tolerances of ten-thousands of an inch.  Bearings are aircraft quality; while the drag system utilizes high grade cork.  All anodizing and finishing is done in-house.
